The Emergency Preparedness Program enables the Health Department to partner with local emergency planners and other agencies throughout the year to plan emergency response activities. In the event of a large- scale emergency, the Health Department may be called upon to provide specific services, such as mass immunizations, medication distribution, assistance with sheltering facilities, etc. The Health Department continually recruits volunteers to enlist in the Medical Reserve Corps Unit to provide a pool of medical and non-medical volunteers to assist our communities by participating during public health events, such as preparedness drills, pre-disaster trainings, health fairs, or public health emergencies
The Medical Reserve Corps (MRC) is a national network of volunteers, organized locally to improve the health and safety of their communities.
MRC volunteers include medical and public health professionals, as well as other community members without healthcare backgrounds. MRC units engage these volunteers to strengthen public health, improve emergency response capabilities and build community resiliency. They prepare for and respond to natural disasters, such as wildfires, hurricanes, tornados, blizzards, and floods, as well as other emergencies affecting public health, such as disease outbreaks. They frequently contribute to community health activities that promote healthy habits.
